Suitable areas of interest include the active demographic assessment of  modern human populations, including foragers, horticulturalists, and other non western  populations, as well as non human primate populations. Potential research areas could  include differential patterns of fertility and mortality, aging and senescence, sex ratios,  and evolutionary medicine. The ability to collaborate with existing faculty in  anthropology and develop new courses in conjunction with human evolutionary biology,  genetics, primatology, and paleontology would be highly desired.

We are looking to expand our strength in the area of Population Dynamics. Within this substantive area, all research foci are of interest. But research with a focus on migration or aging is particularly welcome.

This position is part of an initiative in the Faculty of Arts to become a major centre for research and teaching on population dynamics. The ideal candidate will exhibit interest in and a capacity for interdisciplinary work with related disciplines such as economics and epidemiology. Area of specialization within demography is open. BGSU has a growing and active doctoral program in demography that is buttressed by two federally funded research centers. The NICHD-funded Center for Family and Demographic Research provides a multidisciplinary academic environment dedicated to innovative research on the well-being of children, youth, and families (see www.bgsu.edu/organizations/cfdr/). The National Center for Family & Marriage Research (http://ncfmr.bgsu.edu/), the sole ASPE/HHS-funded center in the nation, supports scholarship by BGSU faculty as well as researchers around the country on the linkages between family structure and the well-being of children, adults, families, and communities. The Sociology Department’s doctoral specializations are demography, family, social psychology, and criminology. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in research and a strong commitment to teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
