Early Estimates of the NHIS 2005

EARLY RELEASE OF SELECTED ESTIMATES BASED ON DATA FROM THE
January-June 2005 NHIS

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) of the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is pleased to announce
the December 2005 Early Release of selected estimates from the
National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). This Early Release
provides and updates estimates of the following 15 selected
health measures based on data from the January-June 2005 NHIS:

Lack of health insurance and type of coverage
Usual place to go for medical care
Obtaining needed medical care
Influenza vaccination
Pneumococcal vaccination
Obesity
Leisure-time physical activity
Current smoking
Alcohol consumption
HIV testing
General health status
Personal care needs
Serious psychological distress
Diagnosed diabetes
Asthma episodes and current asthma

The NHIS Early Release Program updates these estimates on a
quarterly basis, tentatively in March, June, September, and
December. New measures may be added as work continues and in
response to changing data needs. Feedback on this data release
mechanism and on the estimates is welcome.
