New Survey Components Added to PRI Tanzanian DHS Collection

Additional survey components for Tanzania have been added to the PRI DHS PopNet UNIX Collection.

DHS II 1992: Household Member Recode files

DHS III 1996: Wealth Index files

DHS+/SPA 1999 Interim: Wealth Index files

Please note that the SAS and SPSS programming input provided by the Measure DHS project is problematic. PRI-created input will be added as soon as it is possible.

Access to the PRI DHS PopNet UNIX collection is restricted to registered users. Information on how to register can be found on the Measure DHS Web site.

DHS III Uganda Files Updated on PopNet UNIX

Serveral survey component files of the the Ugandan DHS III (standard DHS, 1995) have been updated in the PRI DHS PopNet UNIX collection. The Couples’, Household, Individual, Children’s, and Male recode files are all a newer version than what was available previously. The Household Member recode files and Wealth Index files are a new addition to the collection. See the README file within the Uganda DHS III 1995 directory for more details.

A new version of the Individual Raw files for the Ugandan DHS III In-depth 1995 survey has also been added to PopNet UNIX.

Summit County, Ohio GIS Data and Documentation

Summit County, Ohio topographic data for 1994, 2000, and (as of) January 2006 (each year on DVD-ROM) have been added to the PRI GIS Lab Library Collection. Metadata for each year has also been printed, bound and cataloged (metadata in electronic format available on each DVD). Please see the GIS Library page for information on how to check-out these materials.

NHANES 2003-2004 New Lab Files in SodaPop

NSFH Wave 3 Updated in SodaPop

Nine million African children have lost mothers to AIDS

According to a March 20, 2006 Reuters new story, 9 million African children have lost their mothers to AIDS. British charity Save the Children is calling on donors to increase aid to these children.

Teaching pregnant teenagers to prevent HIV/AIDS and STIs in Cameroon

A news story from the United Nations Integrated Regional Information Networks posted on allAfrica.com describes a program in which “aunties” provide advice on preventing HIV/AIDS and STIs to pregnant teenagers (Cameroon: ‘Aunties’ Teach Pregnant Teenagers to Prevent HIV/Aids And STIs, March 13, 2006).
