Proposed legislation would require public access to federally-funded research
Posted May 3rd, 2006 by Tara Murray in Funding NewsLegislation proposed in the US Senate would require public access to journal articles based on federally-funded research within 6 months of publication. This legislation goes much farther than the existing NIH Public Access Policy, which asks, but does not require, researchers to post their articles on the Web within 12 months of publication. The proposed legislation would also apply to the 10 other agencies that provide $100 million or more in external research funding each year.
