Immigrants, uninsured not likely to use ER

Posted July 21st, 2006 by Tara Murray in Health Care Policy, Migration, Race & Ethnicity

A study published as a Health Affairs Web Exclusive (July 18, 2006) found that communities with high emergency department use have lower numbers of Hispanics, immigrants, and uninsured, contradicting popular beliefs about emergency department usage. The study’s author said that people without insurance often don’t use emergency departments because of the expense, and illegal immgrants don’t use them for fear of being deported.
