Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer

The Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer, 1975-2003, Featuring Cancer among U.S. Hispanic/Latino Populations was produced by the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries. The report provides an annual update on cancer incidence and trends.

State of World Population 2006

The UNFPA has released the 2006 State of World Population report, A Passage to Hope: Women and International Migration. The report says that women represent almost half of all international migrants.

Girls’ education and sexual behavior in Africa

Girl Power: Girls’ Education, Sexual Behaviour and AIDS in Africa(PDF), a new report from ActionAid, finds that girls with more education are more likely to wait to have sex and more likely to use a condom when they do, and thus are less likely to contract HIV.

HRS 2004 Cross-Wave Tracker File Available on PopNet UNIX

The HRS 2004 Cross-Wave Tracker Files (data, statistical input, and documentation) are now available on PopNet UNIX. The files will be added to the PRI HRS SodaPop Collection in the near future.

Please note that there is an errata notice for this file. When the file is added to SodaPop the error will be corrected.

Users must register with HRS prior to obtaining access to these files (if you have registered before to use any HRS public-use data, you do not need to register again).

Photoshare Photo Contest

Project INFO and Canon are sponsoring a photo contest at Photoshare. Photos of rural and urban life in developing countries can be submitted through November 10. The Photoshare project is designed to help non-profit organizations communicate global health and development issues through photography, and includes an online photo database.
