The State of the World’s Children 2007: Women and Children: The Double Dividen of Gender Inequality, new from UNICEF, says that gender bias increases poverty and leads to poorer health for children (BBC News).

Congress approves NIH reauthorization bill

The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that Congress has passed the first bill reauthorizing the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in more than a decade. The final bill does not include a controversial requirement that half of NIH budget increases go to fund interdisciplinary research.
