Electoral participation depends on institutional and campaign factors

Voter turnout depends less on demographic factors and more on institutional and campaign factors, and cities with high rates of population growth had low voter turnout, according to an article appearing in the current issue of Journal of Urban Affairs. (Chronicle of Higher Education)

Adoptive parents invest in children as much as biological parents

Adoptive parents invest as much time and resources in raising their children as do biological parents, and do better than single-parent or stepparent families, according to a new study published in the American Sociological Review (AP via Centre Daily Times). The findings are based on analyses of data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study,Kindergarten-First Grade Waves (ECLS-K) and the researchers controlled for the socioeconomic differences between adoptive and other types of families.

HRS: Pension Data Tracker Files

The HRS has released Version 1 of the Respondent Pension Data Tracker Files. The files were constructed to enhance the user’s ability to utilize pension information from various jobs reported by respondents in up to seven waves of the HRS.

Census Bureau to eliminate foster child category
