Poster design workshop

I’ll be conducting a workshop on research poster design for PRI on Feb. 20. In the workshop, I’ll go over the elements of successful posters and demonstrate some techniques in Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft PowerPoint.

In No Country for Old People? Marc Freedman discusses “encore careers” for baby boomers. Freedman has also written a book, Encore: Work that Matters in the Second Half of Life.

In The New Alone, Elizabeth Marquardt discusses how family configurations (divorce, remarriage, “re-divorce”, single-parent childbearing) affect care in old age. Also see Divorce Foretells Child’s Future Care For Elderly Parent (a news story about Adam Davey’s work) and Marquardt’s book about her work with sociologist Norval Glenn, Between Two Worlds: The Inner Lives of Children of Divorce.

In A Hidden Crime, Marie Therese-Connelly sheds light on elder abuse and our lengthening life spans.

CCD: 2005-2006 Data Now Available

NIH Center for Scientific Review announces new Division of Healthcare, Population and Behavioral Sciences

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Scientific Review has announced the creation of a new Division of Healthcare, Population and Behavioral Sciences. The new division replaces the Division of Clinical and Population-based Studies. The change is intended to realign review in the areas of Behavioral, Social and Population Sciences and AIDS research.

Within the division, the current Health of the Population Integrated Review Group will be split into Epidemiological and Population Sciences and Healthcare Delivery and Methodologies in order to keep the groups at an ideal size.
