APA reconsiders deposit fee

The American Psychological Association is reconsidering a policy to charge authors a $2,500 fee for depositing papers in PubMed Central in order to comply with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy, as reported on the Chronicle of Higher Education’s News Blog.

Two major publishers have new policies relating to the NIH Public Access Policy, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The Nature Publishing Group (including the journal Nature) has announced that it will deposit its authors’ manuscripts in PubMed Central for free with a 6-month embargo period.

The American Psychological Association will also deposit papers in PubMed Central - for a $2,500 fee, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s News Blog.

World population approaches 7 billion
