CHNS now a Search Functions Only SodaPop Dataset

The China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) is now classified as a Search Functions Only dataset in SodaPop.Â Â This decision was madeÂ because registration requirements complicate the archiving process, often resulting in an additionalÂ barrierÂ to user access.Â To avoid unneccessary complications, PRI is now only providing metadata and search function capabilities for the CHNS.Â

Please note that if you have been using PRI’s CHNSÂ PopNet UNIX collection, the Longitudinal Data Files and Panel DataÂ Files (1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, and 2004) areÂ still available (in original distribution format and asÂ SAS datasetsÂ in /home/sas_data/chns).Â The Paris Windows file server will also have a SAS’d copy of theseÂ datasets, as itÂ serves as aÂ mirror of the /home/sas_data collection on UNIX.Â The collection is up-to-date as of 3/16/2006.

CHNS 2004 Cross-Section Released; Longitudinal Files Re-released

The China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) project has just released preliminary cross-section data for 2004, and re-released all longitudinal data files (3/9/2006). The new files have been added to the PRI PopNet UNIX CHNS collection.

Please register with the CHNS project prior to using data on PopNet. Registration is short, and is primarily used by the CHNS project to show that there is interest in the data, and to provide users with information about the data (updates, new releases, etc.).

Note that there are no codebooks for these files - just questionnaires and general documentaiton available from the CHNS Project Web site.
