According to a Census Bureau press release, Americans are marrying older and living alone more, and household sizes are shrinking. Data from the Current Population Survey 2005 Annual Social and Economic Supplement are presented in America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2005.

Minimum wage workers

Characteristics of Minimum Wage Workers: 2005, a new report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, uses data from the Current Population Survey to describe minimum wage workers in 2005. Among the findings, minimum wage workers tended to be young, single, and work part-time.

CPS Utilities ASEC (March Supplement) on CD-ROM

The PRI Data Archive has just acquired the CPS Utilities ASEC (formerly known as the March Supplement/Annual Demographic File) 1962-2005 on three CD-ROMs from the Unicon Research Corporation.

Disc MAR A contains data from 1962-1997, Disc MAR B contains data from 1998-2005, and Disc MARC C contains the software needed to work with the data (extraction program software, documentation for the data). The CDs have been cataloged (8191, 8192, and 8193) and are available for check-out by registered users. Please note that there is a data use agreement that all users must abide by. These data are not to be provided to anyone outside of PRI without permission from Unicon.

CPS ASEC 2005 Version 3 in SodaPop

Version 3 of the CPS Annual Social and Economic Supplement 2005 has been added to the PRI CPS SodaPop collection, replacing the previous version.

The 2005 Current Population Survey (CPS) ASEC was re-released by the Census Bureau as version 3. This version of the data has data for noncash benefits values and after tax values included. The PDF technical documentation has also been revised since the last re-release (12/2005). The new files have been downloaded and added to the PRI CPS PopNet UNIX collection and will be added to SodaPop as soon as it is possible.

CPS 2005 Contingent Work Supplement Data

Data and documentation for the CPS 2005 (February) Contingent Work supplement have been added to the PRI CPS PopNet UNIX collection. The data file is an ASCII *.txt file, the documentation is in PDF format. A *.txt data dictionary is included, but no statistical input was available at the time of acquisition.

The CPS Annual Social and Economic Supplement, 2005 was re-released as version 2. The new data and documentation files have been downloaded and added to PopNet UNIX. The previous version is still available if needed. The files are being prepared for SodaPop and will be available for access soon.
