Adoptive parents invest in children as much as biological parents

Adoptive parents invest as much time and resources in raising their children as do biological parents, and do better than single-parent or stepparent families, according to a new study published in the American Sociological Review (AP via Centre Daily Times). The findings are based on analyses of data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study,Kindergarten-First Grade Waves (ECLS-K) and the researchers controlled for the socioeconomic differences between adoptive and other types of families.

The PRI Data Archive has acquired the ECLS-K Longitudinal Kindergarten - Fifth Grade Public-Use Data on CD-ROM. The CD has been cataloged and is available for check-out by registered PRI Library and Data Archive Users. The data will likely be added to SodaPop in the near future.
