HRS: RAND Version H Available

The Version H HRS/RAND data is now available in SodaPop and PopNet.

The files incorporates data from 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2004 final releases, and 2006 early release of HRS data. As well as additional co-horts. For more information, please see the HRS website page.

Health and Retirement Study SodaPop pages reorganized

The SodaPop pages for the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) have been reorganized to accommodate the increasing number of files in the study. A download page has been created for each wave/year of data.


The HRS data sets on POPNET and the Windows server Paris, have also been reorganized. The SAS data sets have been moved from a single directory (/home/sas_data/hrs) to subdirectories (hrs1992, hrs1994, etc). The Rand and master files have been moved to the hrsxtra subdirectory.

Income and Wealth Imputations for HRS 2006 Core - Early Release

2001 Consumption and Activities Mail Survey (CAMS) - Final v2.0

HRS 2006 Post-Exit - Final v1.0

Biomarker 2006 Data - Early Release

HRS: New RAND Merged File

HRS has announced the release of the Version “G” RAND File. The file contains HRS data from 1992-2004. This file replaces the old RAND merged file on SodaPop. Version G has 348 new variables, but has dropped 88 variables from the previous release. This data is also available on PopNet.

HRS: Master ID Data File

The HRS has just released the Master ID file which will simplify the process of merging HRS files. For more information about this file, see the HRS webiste.

Baby boomers faring poorly as they approach retirement

A new study of Health and Retirement Survey (HRS) data has found that baby boomers approaching retirement age report poorer health, more pain, and more difficulty doing everyday physical tasks than their predecessors, according to a National Institute on Aging (NIA) press release. The findings are presented in National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) Working Paper No. 12762.

HRS: 2003 Consumption and Aging/Memory Data Available

HRS has announced the release of the followng data:

2003 Consumption and Activities Mail Survey (CAMS) Final Version 1.0. This data includes questions about individual activities, household patterns of consumption, and individual use of prescription drugs.

Aging, Demographics, and Memory Study (ADAMS 1) Early, Version 1.0. This data was designed to study dementia.

HRS: Pension Data Tracker Files

The HRS has released Version 1 of the Respondent Pension Data Tracker Files. The files were constructed to enhance the user’s ability to utilize pension information from various jobs reported by respondents in up to seven waves of the HRS.
