The Statistical Brief looks at whether dental checkup advice was ever offered by a physician or other health care provider, the periodicity of receiving dental checkups, and affordability of dental care among children between the ages of 2 and 17 in the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population. Estimates in the brief are based on data from the child health supplement, preventive care, and access to care sections of the Household Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS-HC) for 2003.

Producing State Estimates-Household Component

This paper describes the results of research using data from the Household Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey to produce a selected group of state-level estimates for the 30 states with the largest populations. Three methods of estimation are used. Each method is evaluated using standard measures, and conclusions about the quality of these estimates, along with recommendations, are given.

Diabetes Management: Tests and Treatments

This Statistical Brief uses data from the Household Component of the 2003 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS-HC) to estimate the health status, preventive health practices, and treatment regimens of adults who reported having been diagnosed with diabetes. Rates at which persons with diabetes obtain preventive medical care and recommended tests are presented.

Long-Term Uninsured under Age 65

Using data from the Household Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS-HC) for 2002 and 2003, this report provides estimates of the proportion of the civilian noninstitutionalized non-elderly (under age 65) population that was uninsured for up to two years, 2002 to 2003, and identifies groups especially at risk of lacking health insurance.
