The PRI Library has received an announcement from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and Center for Human Resource Research at The Ohio State University (CHRR) for a summer workshop on the National Longitudinal Surveys.

New NLSY Data on CD-ROM

The PRI Data Archive has recently acquired the following NLSY data:

NLSY79 Main File and Work History Data: Revised 1

NLSY79 Child and Young Adult 1979-2004: Release 12.1

NLSY97 Main File Data Rounds 1-8: July 2006 Release

At present these CDs are only available on CD-ROM for check-out by registered users. All of the above will be added to the PRI NLSY SodaPop Collection in the near future. Users not wanting to access the data via CD-ROM may also elect to download the data from the Center for Human Resource Research (primary distributor).

NLSY79 1979-2004 Main File Available in SodaPop

The NLSY79 1979-2004 data is now available on SodaPop. These data will also be made available on CD-ROM for check-out from the PRI Data Archive in the near future.

NLSY 1979-2002 Codebook Supplement Released

Older sibling can be bad influence

Merely having an older sibling encourages risky behaviors, according to recent studies led by economist Susan Averett (USA Today, April 24, 2006). Averett analyzed data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, the National Longitudinal Survey of Adolescent Health, and the National Educational Longitudinal Survey.

America’s Youth at 18: School Enrollment and Employment Transitions

NLS 2005 Handbook

The NLS 2005 Handbook is now available. This online guide serves as an introduction to the 7 cohorts that make up the National Longitudinal Surveys: NLSY97, NLSY79 and children, Mature Women, Young Women, Older Men, and Young Men. The Handbook is especially useful for researchers new to the NLS data. Each cohort-specific chapter is accompanied with detailed tables and information about many of the variables contained in each of the surveys.

NLSY97 Mainfile Round 1-7

The NLSY97 Mainfile Rounds 1-7 (1997-2003) Dataset was re-released in October 2005. This release supercedes the June 2005 release. The files were dowloaded from the Center for Human Resource Research and burned to CD-ROM. The files have already been processed and are available via SodaPop. The CD-ROM will be cataloged. The downloaded file had to remain zipped on the CD-ROM due to its large size.

National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997 Cohort (NLSY97): The NLSY97 Mainfile Rounds 1-7 (includes data from 1997-2003) is the latest release of the NLSY97. The files were downloaded from the Center for Human Resource Research (CHRR) and burned to CD-ROM. The CD-ROM will soon be available for check-out from 806 Oswald. The data and documentation for this new release has been added to SodaPop.

National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 Cohort (NLSY79) Young Adult: The NLSY79 Young Adult 2004 data is a new release for the NLSY79. The files were downloaded from the Center for Human Resource Research (CHRR) and burned to CD-ROM. The CD-ROM will soon be available for check-out from 806 Oswald. The data and documentation for this new release has been added to SodaPop. The link for this particular data file is located within the Child and Young Adult section.

Initial release date for all files above: 6/2005.
