UNAIDS/WHO AIDS Epidemic Update

The report addresses conditions and trends in individual regions, including sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, eastern and central Europe, and Latin America.

Key Indicators Survey

The Key Indicators Survey (KIS), a new tool from MEASURE DHS, is designed to collect population-based data comparable to the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) for sub-national areas. The tool includes six questionnaires and guidance manuals.

Maternal mortality in India

Maternal Mortality in India: 1997-2003: Trends, Causes and Risk Factors (Microsoft Word format) is now available from the Census of India. The report shows that maternal mortality has declined over the period 1997-2003, but progress is still needed to meet Millenium Development Goals by 2007 and 2012.

Multi-country study on women’s health and domestic violence

WHO Multi-country Study on Women’s Health and Domestic Violence against Women: Initial results on prevalence, health outcomes and women’s responses provides initial data from the study, in which 24,000 women were interviewed. The report covers 10 countries: Bangladesh, Brazil, Ethiopia, Japan, Peru, Namibia, Samoa, Serbia and Montenegro, Thailand and the United Republic of Tanzania.

World Development Report 2007

The World Bank has just released the World Development Report 2007: Development and the Next Generation. The report says that developing countries that invest in the education, health care, and job training of their youth could see economic growth and reduced poverty.

Previous editions of the World Development Report are available in the PRI Library, and the 2007 report will be added to the collection.

Food Security Assessment 2005

This report, from the USDA ERS, shows a slight decline in the number of hungry people in the world from 688 million in 1992-94 to 639 million in 2002-04.
