News from the PRI Library and Data Archive offers feeds in the RSS 2.0 specification. For a simple explanation of RSS, please see this arcticle from the Christian Science Monitor, or the short video RSS in Plain English from Common Craft.

Information about RSS use at Penn State can be found on the ITS page Sorting out Blogs, Wikis, and Newsfeeds.

Using RSS Feeds

You can subscribe to our feeds using e-mail, a desktop application such as Firefox or Thunderbird, a Web-based application, or through other options. Instructions for each method can be found below. If you need help subscribing, please contact us at library@pop.psu.edu.

To subscribe to our feeds by e-mail:

R-mail is a free Web resource that allows you to subscribe to RSS feeds to receive news alerts via e-mail. To subscribe to an individual category, navigate to that category page and enter your e-mail address in the subscription box on the right side of the page. Repeat this process for each category you wish to subscribe to.

You will receive an e-mail from R-mail explaining how to activate your subscription. Once your subscription is active, you will receive excerpts of new posts along with a link to the full post. You can easily unsubscribe to R-mail should you no longer wish to receive feeds via this service. For more information see the R-mail FAQ Page.

To subscribe to our feeds using a desktop application

You can subscribe to feeds using Live Bookmarks in the Firefox browser. To subscribe, navigate to the category you wish to subscribe to, and click the orange button that appears in your navigation bar. Example:
Firefox Live Bookmarks

You can also subscribe using the Thunderbird e-mail client. To subscribe, create a News & Blogs account. News items will appear like e-mail messages in Thunderbird. Example:
Thunderbird News & Blogs

To subscribe to our feeds using a Web-based news reader:

Bloglines is a free Web-based news reader. To subscribe, create a Bloglines account and copy and paste the URL of the feed you wish to subscribe to into Bloglines. (The feed for any category can be accessed by clicking on the RSS Subscribe button on the right side of the category page. You can also add a Bloglines subscribe button to your browser toolbar.) You can access your Bloglines account from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection.

Other options:

There are many more aggregators out there that you can use. We have provided instructions on those we have found easiest to use and/or are built-in to software that PRI supports. If you are looking for other options, the News on Feeds list of aggregators is a good place to start.
